What Makanak collects, why we collect it, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who is responsible for your data
Makanak decides what personal data is collected on this service and why, and is responsible for looking after it. If you have a question about anything on this page, or want to make a request about your own data, use the contact page and it will reach the person who can answer.
What we collect
From an owner: your name, mobile number and email; the property’s exact address and location; and the documents that show you own it or are authorised to act for it.
From a seeker: your name, mobile number, optional email, and the message you send about a property.
From everyone: the pages you visit, and the technical details every web server records — your IP address, your browser, and the time of the request.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, your national ID number, your bank credentials or your card details. Payment happens outside this website.
Why we collect it, and on what basis
To provide the service you asked for. Reviewing a listing, arranging a viewing, presenting an offer and recording a commission all require the details above; without them there is no brokerage to perform.
To meet obligations that apply to us. A brokerage keeps records of the transactions it brokers, and those records include who the parties were.
For the legitimate interest of running the service safely — spotting duplicate or fraudulent listings, rate-limiting abuse, and keeping an audit trail of decisions that affect money.
With your consent, and only with it, for marketing messages. That consent is separate from the messages we must send you about your own property, viewings or payments, and you can withdraw it at any time without losing the second kind.
What is never published
The exact address of a property is never public. Listings show an area, and the map shows an approximate area only — never a pin on the building.
An owner’s name, phone number and email are never shown to a seeker. A seeker’s contact details are never shown to an owner. Both sides communicate through Makanak.
Makanak does not collect identity documents, ownership evidence or payment receipts through this website, and does not store them here. Where a document is needed it is handled with the broker directly, off the site.
Photographs are re-encoded before publication, which removes the location and device information a camera writes into them.
Who we share it with
Makanak’s own staff, to do the work you asked for.
Service providers who operate parts of the service on our behalf — website hosting and email delivery. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
Anyone we are required to disclose to by law, or by an order of a competent authority.
We do not sell your personal data, we do not share it with other agencies, and we do not pass it to advertisers.
Where it is kept
The service and its database are hosted on servers we contract for that purpose. Where a provider processes data outside Egypt, we use providers who commit contractually to protecting it and we keep the categories of data involved to what the service needs to function.
The documents you upload are kept on private storage that is not reachable from the public internet, and are served only through an authorised, logged request.
How long we keep it
An unfinished listing draft is deleted automatically after 90 days.
A listing and the enquiries made about it are kept for 5 years after it closes, which is the ordinary period for commercial and tax records. The paperwork evidencing a transaction is held outside this website.
An enquiry from someone who never transacted is kept for 2 years, so a returning seeker is recognised rather than asked everything twice.
An account nobody has signed into for 2 years is closed and its personal details removed, apart from anything the paragraph above requires us to keep.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, or object to a particular use of it. The request form is in your account, under your details, and we answer within a reasonable period.
You can withdraw consent to marketing at any time, from the same screen, and it takes effect immediately.
Some records cannot be deleted on request — those attached to a completed deal or a signed agreement, for as long as the period above requires. Where that applies we will tell you which records and why.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the competent data-protection authority in Egypt.
How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Passwords are stored hashed and are never readable, by us or by anyone else. Staff accounts require a second factor.
Private documents are held outside the web root, are authorised on every request and are logged on every open. Actions that change money or status are recorded in an audit trail that cannot be edited from the interface.
Children
This service is intended for adults transacting in property. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this page
If we change how we handle personal data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where a change materially affects you, we will tell you directly rather than relying on you to re-read it.
